Free receipt template for instructors, tutors and teachers
A receipt confirms that a payment arrived. It shows the word "Receipt", your name and ABN, the date you were paid, what the payment was for, the amount, how it was paid, and the invoice it settles. The simplest receipt is the original invoice, marked paid.

When to send one
Send a receipt once the money is in your account, not when the client says it is on its way. For bank transfers that is usually a day or two after they pay. Families paying a term in advance, and anyone claiming the cost through their own business, are the people most likely to ask.
Receipts and invoices work as a pair
Give each receipt the number of the invoice it settles, so either one leads straight to the other. If you number your receipts too, keep them in their own series, separate from your invoices. More on that in how to number your invoices.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice asks to be paid. A receipt confirms that payment has arrived. You send the invoice first, and the receipt once the money is in your account.
Do I have to give a receipt?
Under the Australian Consumer Law, a business must give proof of a transaction, such as a receipt, for a purchase of $75 or more excluding GST, and for a smaller one if the customer asks. Many families and clients want one for their records anyway.
Can an invoice marked paid be a receipt?
Yes. Sending the original invoice marked paid, with the date and how it was paid, is a common and perfectly clear way to give a receipt.
Do I need to show GST on a receipt?
If you are registered for GST and the customer needs it for their own records, show it. A registered business must give a tax invoice within 28 days if asked, for a sale over $82.50 including GST.
Rather it sent itself?
Flowfetti emails your client a receipt the moment you mark an invoice paid, with the date and the amount, so nobody has to ask.
